United States Foreign Aid and Multilateralism Under the Trump Presidency

Abstract This article addresses two key questions concerning US foreign aid under the 45th President, Donald Trump (2017–21): Did administration radically restructure apparatus of government amid recent reemergence China as a state actor in international development and global governance? If so, how which conditions did US, world’s largest donor, deal with new challenges posed by expanding reach Chinese diplomacy? The core objective here is to look back at administration, particularly its role vis-à-vis power decline influence abroad. maintains that dominance sector was serious threat from principal challenges: (1) lack coherent credible strategy rapidly increasing an donor country; (2) declining legitimacy due exclusionary anti-globalization discourses perceived American power.
